The emergence of life supporting currency systems such as LOAVES – a soon to launch business to business voucher system funded by a New Zealand City Council local initiatives grant, and Berkshares, launched in upstate New York in 2006 are encouraging examples of long overdue changed attitudes and practices around money. 

Berkshares Susan Witt says, “People are looking for what they can do without waiting for government, without waiting for reform, without going to big banks. For what can they do as citizens”

Industrial scale support for regionally and locally based complementary money systems has the potential to unleash a truly dynamic tool that would outstrip the power of all others designed to combat climate change, not to mention the positive influence of radical transformation of money systems on a myriad of other pressing global issues.
