Education

The essence of this policy will be based on the 7 principles of the Awareness party.

Education and support of our youth is critical in providing a stable society, and empowered content citizens of the future.

1. “Nobody gives you an education. If you want one, you have to take it.” John Taylor Gatto.

Education is schools should be free for all, obviously, but questions need to be asked about whether we are meeting the real needs of our children? School routines seem set up to discourage self discovery. What principles and intentions are behind our secular education system? There are many questions to be explored as to why we have such a drinking problem in this country, and so many disempowered youth.

Children learn best when they have a good EQ (emotional stability) to support their IQ. Assistance for parents with parenting skills needs to be available from the time of a child’s birth.

Diet is very important not only in assisting learning, but in assisting in behavior. If England could manage to provide healthy school dinners / lunches straight after WWII for all children, I fail to see why a country like New Zealand cannot also do this for our children.

It is almost unbelieveable that the current National Government has repealed the act that was passed insisting that only healthy food could be sold in schools. (This shows us clearly that corporate interests, like Coca Cola, are more important to our government than sensible decisions that care for our people.) See link to FOE

The Awareness Party will be asking questions to see what needs to be addressed to empower young people to want to learn; to enjoy learning; and to leave the system with a healthy set of values and self esteem.

2. Empowering children to be environmentally responsible from a young age is important. See The Lorax Project.

Many of our youth have lost touch with nature. Much time is spent indoors infront of tvs and computers. The Awareness Party is working on a programme to raise awareness of nature for children. If children are without a healthy diet and out of touch with nature, is it any wonder that there are so many behavioural and learning difficulties.
